Sterile Culturette - Taking your own cultures to the vet or the lab can save time and stress on your birds IF you have the proper way to do it! We now offer sterile culturettes, which include a cotton swab and transfer medium. After you take the sample, you put the swab in the tube and break the inner vial containing the medium. You then take the sample to your own vet or lab to determine bacterial counts and the proper antibiotic to use. PIPPIN'S ROOST WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPROPER USE OR INJURY TO BIRDS BY USE OF THIS PRODUCT. Please work with your own veterinarian to learn the proper way to collect and transport samples! 

POVIDINE SWABSTICKS - A must for your emergency medical kit!  As a first aid antiseptic, you can use it to swab the navels of newly-hatched babies to prevent infection, especially for those chicks that had trouble hatching. The swabstick is a handy way to apply iodine antiseptic to minor cuts, scrapes, abrasions or broken feathers.

NESTING MATERIALS

NEW! Dry Eucalyptus - Those of us who live in southern California have some advantages over folks who live in other parts of the country. (We also have some disadvantages, but we won’t discuss those here!) One of these advantages is the availability of fresh eucalyptus. Birds, especially hookbills, love the stuff for chewing, eating the seed pods, using as nesting material, and sometimes rubbing on their bodies. Eucalyptus acts as a natural deterrent to pests in nestboxes, and I’ve seen lovebirds weaving it into their elaborate “hoods” over the entrances to their nests. That’s the fresh stuff. When dried, it loses none of its good qualities, and hookbills seem to like it just as much as when it’s fresh. NEW! Angora/Mohair Goat Hair!  This PIPPIN'S ROOST exclusive is cleaned and carded (combed) goat hair that was too coarse to be made into fine clothing, but is just right for small birds who line their nests with soft, warm fibers.  The natural lanolin has been washed out so that birds don't get sticky from working the wool into their nests, and although the individual hairs are about 2-4" long, they are natural fibers and should not present a problem for toes and wingtips.  The color is off-white.

WOOD MOSS (soft excelsior) -Very long, grasslike fibers are attractive to birds for nest lining, as well as to birds who weave. A nice alternative to harsher, brittle grasses, straw an hay. The moss is soft, pliable and really nice stuff! Please note- This product has been dyed, but I have been assured b the manufacturer that it is non-toxic to all animals. I have use it with my own birds for over a year with no ill effects.

BIRDHOUSE GOURD NESTS - All-natural birdhouse gourds, cleaned out with 1 " or 1.5" entrance hole, and hanger. If you use this nest outside it is recommended that you use a light polyurethane coating to protect it from the weather No coating has been used so these gourd nests are ready for artists to paint, etch or decoupage! NEST PLATFORMS - Tired of using berry boxes, grape flats or other nests that last barely a nesting season? These quality platforms are made of dried cedar, dovetailed and glued and nailed in the corners! The bottom is 1/4" mesh, and there are absolutely NO wires or sharp edges sticking out! Platforms come with hanging hardware attached. You just need hog rings or other fastener! Jays, thrushes and larger softbills will use the medium-sized nest and turacos like the larger size.

She does well with her pellets, but life is more than just pellets, especially if you’re a cockatoo. We tried various kinds of soak and cook foods, but she decided that she just couldn’t stand to eat anything that wasn’t round, or close to it! She threw out the kidney beans. She threw out the cooked sunflower seeds. She threw out the paddy rice. She threw out the lima beans. AVICO LORY-LIFE is a complete, balanced diet for your lory. It is available in two forms: nectar mix and powder. The powder can be sprinkled on fruit, or left dry for the birds to lick from a dish. The nectar is easily mixed with either warm or cold water. As with any nectar diet. either powder or liquid, care must be taken to wash dishes thoroughly every day. Lory droppings are normally quite liquid in consistency; feeding the powdered Lory-Life diet will solidify the droppings to some extent.

EMERGENCY HEAT PACKS - If you've ever had a power failure at the same time you have babies in a brooder, you know the fear of losing everything if the electricity doesn't come back on in time.
