AVIARY AND TERRARIUM PLANTS
BROMELIADS Available in 4" pots, these sturdy plants are really good in terrariums, especially for those who raise frogs and other amphibians. Most of them have pockets that hold water, essential for amphibian breeding. They flower once a year, but the blooms last a long time, and after blooming the plant produces "pups," which are planted by themselves for the next year's flowers! Bromeliads are shipped in bloom.

Tillandsia cyanea Grass-like
leaves, and a big hot pink spathe that has bright blue flowers. Very pretty! Gusmania varieties Tall flowers, with bright red, orange, purple or red-purple bracts. The flowers themselves are usually tiny and yellow. Not all varieties available at all times. Cryptanthus "Earth Star" Flat, pink leaves (sometimes pale yellow), with a center pocket for catching water. The flowers are tiny, white globes in the center of the plant. Vriesia "Indian Feather" A swirl of green leaves forming a bowl of variegated leaves of green and pale green. The flower is red, comes up straight from the center, then flares out at the top. It really does look like a red feather! Neoregelia A bowl of green leaves, red or purple-red at the center. The best for frogs and amphibians, since the bowl is deep and holds a fair amount of water. |
All bromeliads are $6.50 each for 4" plants. The Cryptanthus also comes in a 2" plant for $3.25. Assorted bromeliad collections are also available, 10 for $60.00, 16 for $ 88.00.
Green Plants
All plants have been carefully screened and washed free of all pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals.
| Greens come in 2" and 4" sizes
for terrariums, and 6" and larger sizes for aviaries. They are specially chosen for
terrarium and aviary use. Prices and availability vary according to the time of year. It
is not recommended that plants larger than an 8" pot be shipped because of weight
requirements (though you are welcome to visit our southern California nursery if you're in
the area). Please call for current prices and availability of aviary plants. Types of plants include: ferns, pothos, Ficus benjamina varieties (the "Mini Lucy" variety is especially good for chameleons and the "Monique" variety has a beautiful leaf that is resistent to leaf drop), Neanthe bella palm, Dracena, ferns, etc. |
